Promotion of good agricultural practices and post-harvest handling techniques to prevent mycotoxin contamination
This project will spearhead the promotion of good agricultural practices and post-harvest handling techniques to prevent mycotoxin contamination, working closely with local farming communities and value chain actors.
About the project
Starting point
The team will identify and validate effective, low-cost methods for reducing mycotoxin risks, such as improved crop rotation, proper drying and storage procedures, and the use of biocontrol agents. These practices will be tailored to the specific needs and constraints of different cropping systems and regions.
Support from local communities
Extensive engagement with smallholder farmers, cooperatives, and extension services will be crucial to understanding the local context, barriers to adoption, and effective approaches for disseminating and implementing these good practices.
End result
By equipping African farmers and food handlers with the knowledge and skills to implement proven mycotoxin prevention strategies, the project will contribute to the development of more resilient, sustainable, and safer food systems across the continent.
